WCSL - Weekend Preview

West Cork Schoolboys League - Weekend Preview
History was made in Ballyvackey last Wednesday evening when Ardfield U12s played their first ever match in the West Cork Schoolboys league. Clonakilty AFC were the hosts in an U12 Group 1 league fixture.

A large crowd was in attendance on a sun-kissed evening in Clonakilty to witness Ardfield making their debut in the U12 grade. Despite a promising start from the visitors it was Clonakilty AFC who capitalised on their early chances. The hosts grabbed a fortuitous lead in the opening minutes thanks to an own goal.

Jack Cowhig found the net from the edge of the penalty area 5 minutes later and AFC had a commanding 2-0 lead. Ardfield continued to surge forward and fought their way back into the match. The visitors should have opened their account for the season midway through the half but Jack Butler agonisingly rattled the upright from the penalty spot.

Clon's Jack O'Mahony began to stamp his authority on the game with an impressive first half display which yielded a stunning hat trick. Sean White added another not long before the break to guarantee all 3 points for Clonakilty. Ardfield never gave up but in truth, the game was over as a contest by half time. The second half petered out with AFC firmly in control.

Clonakilty AFC ran out deserving winners in the end and look a side more than capable of making the U12 play-offs this season. Jack O’Mahony, Sean White, Cian Crowley, Jack Cowhig and Paul Harte were the pick of Clon’s best players.
